patty melt

serves 4

Ingredients

  • ½ stick butter
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 1/1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 tbl worcestershire sauce
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. melt 2 tbl butter in a skillet
  2. add onions and cook until caramelized, 20 minutes
  3. mix the ground beef and worcestershire sauce and form into 4 square patties
  4. when onions are done remove them to a plate and cook the patties until done, 3-4 minutes per side
  5. assemble patty melts
  6. bread, 1 slice swiss, the burger, the onions the other slice of swiss and then the top slice of bread
  7. melt 2 tbl of butter in the skillet and grill the sandwiches until toasted
  8. add last 2 tbl of butter, turn the patty melts and cook until toasted on other side and the cheese melts

Recipe Notes

serve with homemade baked bbq potato chips and fudge ripple shakes
